ETH Zurich is the study, research and work place of 18,000 people from 80 nations. The Autonomous System Laboratory works on designs like wheeled locomotion systems, autonomous micro-aircrafts and autonomous cars with 3D navigation and mapping capabilities in rough terrains. Major research focuses are in cognitive maps, feature based simultaneous localisation and mapping (SLAM) using multiple modalities and path planning in highly dynamic environments. The lab is involved in various National and European projects in inspection robotics for power plant applications and autonomous cars and in the ExoMars project of the ESA. Technology transfer is mainly realised through several spin-off companies. ASL is and was involved in many European projects and is currently leading the EU projects sFly and muFly.

The Autonomous System Laboratory is leader of WP4 and will define and develop control strategies for automating the flight of a single PAV for automatic take-off, navigation and landing. Our field expertise in autonomous micro helicopters and navigation technology will be a valuable asset. The Autonomous System Laboratory expertise relevant to the myCopter project is the lab’s robot design experience and especially the large competence in simultaneous localisation and mapping (SLAM), hybrid and hierarchical representation of environments and navigation in dynamic environments.
