Karlsruher Institut für Technologie

Karlsruhe, Germany

The Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS) is a scientific institute within the Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT) and part of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres (HGF). KIT creates and communicates knowledge on the impacts of human action and their evaluation in view of the development and use of new technologies. Its work focuses on environmental, economic, social, political and institutional issues. For this purpose, the institute applies and develops methods of technology assessment, systems analysis and technology foresight.
KIT carries out self-defined research work integrated within the programmes of the HGF, as well as third-party funded and contract research. Important external clients and sponsors in the political area are the European Commission and German federal and state ministries and authorities. In the parliamentary area, KIT operates the Office of Technology Assessment at the German Parliament (TAB) since 1990 and leads the ETAG network which advises the European Parliament via its STOA Panel. KIT cooperates with numerous scientific institutions on a national and international level.
KIT is leader of WP7 and will contribute to explore the socio-technological context, the infrastructural environment, the potential impact on society and social expectations towards PAV via reflexive analysis.
